Monsters Under the Bed

It was bright outside and you said,
Let’s breathe some fresh air and catch some butterflies.

Then the storm came and you said,
Let’s hide behind these walls so we won’t see the dark clouds form.

The day fell into a moonless night and you said,
Let’s hide under blankets so the monsters can’t get us.

But the frailty of butterflies cannot withstand the torment of time.

And the walls will only hide us until the hurricane  comes.

It is then that you will realise – monsters don’t live under the bed, they live in the darkest corners of our hearts and the deepest shadows in our heads.
